Welding Tip (Type 551) Size 20

Type 551 Welding Tip – Oxy/Acetylene

The Type 551 Welding Tip is a precision-engineered oxy-acetylene nozzle designed for welding, brazing, silver soldering and general metal fabrication applications. Manufactured to provide a stable, concentrated flame, Type 551 tips deliver excellent heat control and consistent performance across a wide range of workshop and industrial tasks.

Available in multiple sizes to suit different material thicknesses and heat requirements, these tips allow operators to select the appropriate flame intensity for both fusion welding and brazing operations, helping to improve productivity, weld quality and gas efficiency.

Suitable for use with compatible oxy-acetylene welding torches, Type 551 Welding Tips are commonly used in workshops, fabrication facilities, maintenance departments and educational training environments.

Understanding Tip Sizes

Selecting the correct welding tip is critical for achieving good weld quality and efficiency. Smaller tip sizes provide a concentrated flame for thinner materials, while larger tips deliver greater heat output for thicker sections. Using the appropriate tip size helps maintain weld quality, minimise distortion and optimise gas consumption.

Operator Guidance

For best results, set oxygen and acetylene pressures to the recommended values and adjust to a neutral oxy-acetylene flame before welding. Ensure flashback arrestors are fitted to both oxygen and acetylene lines and follow all relevant oxy-fuel safety procedures.

Always select the tip size best suited to the material thickness being welded to achieve optimum penetration, control and productivity.
